Children’s tent
Children's tent t is an indoor, elastic tent that offers a highly personal play experience. By manipulating the wooden rods and elastic ropes, children can shape the structure to their preferences. To expand or modify the tent's shape, children can utilize elastic cords fitted with attached hooks. These cords hook directly into the tarp's existing holes and can be anchored by tying the opposite end to various surrounding household objects, such as cabinet handles, chairs, tables, or door knobs.
The design process was not focused on solving a specific problem but was purely material-driven. It began with research to understand and leverage the properties of the chosen textile. The inspiration to work with elastic material originated from observing two girls construct an impromptu tent using a bedsheet, where their manipulation of the fabric's form—by stretching, lifting, and shrinking it with various objects—suggested the concept of a self-customizing, stretchy tent for children.
The children's tent consists of a large, elastic tarp fitted with rivet holes, which allows children to stretch and customize the structure. The core support features easily assembled wooden poles, which offer a simpler and more intuitive assembly process compared to traditional tent poles. The base structure comprises a wooden hoop and a soft cushion, which includes holes for securely anchoring the poles.
Empty rivet holes let light through them creating this magical atmosphere of a starry night sky.
