OliFUN
A toolkit for museum visits
OliFUN is a tool to make museum more memorable and fun.
It is a set of 10 wooden hoops that are different sizes and different colours. Belonging to the set are also thin plastic inserts, on which the kids draw motifs that they encountered on their museum tour. After placing the inserts into the hoops, they can use the flashlight to shine light through them. The idea is to explore playing with colours, patterns, and atmospheres.
OliFUN hoops also encourage collaboration with peers, and creating different colour and pattern combinations.
Why museums?
School museum visits can be boring and uninteresting to children, but having play opportunities where they don’t expect them to be, would make their tour more exciting and immersive.
To shine through the hoop, the children would use a flashlight. In dark museum rooms, this would make the whole room immersed in the colour that the children selected, as well as their drawn pattern showing on the walls, floors, and objects. This experience is more sensorial and memorable as the standard museum tour.
